To mine Hellstone in Terraria, you're gonna need at least a Nightmare Pickaxe or a Deathbringer Pickaxe. These can mine Hellstone. But here's the pro gamer move: Hellstone releases lava when mined, so bring an Obsidian Skin Potion to become immune to lava. Also, mining it in the Underworld means it's hot as heck down there, so adding some Obsidian gear to your fashion list wouldn't hurt either!

Mining Hellstone? Too mainstream. Use explosives for a fun and chaotic alternative. Who needs precision when you have BOOM?

Just grab any pickaxe that's better than gold and whack away at the Hellstone. Don't forget to dance around the lava though.

Honestly, just fish for Reaver Shark in the ocean. It mines Hellstone and saves you the trouble of crafting those other pickaxes.
