You can't upload GIFs directly, but you can convert them to videos first! Use apps like Giphy or GIF Maker to do this.
Why bother with GIFs? Just use Instagram's Boomerang feature and get a life.
I use Giphy's app to turn GIFs into short video loops and then upload. Works like a charm every time!
I've used an app called ImgPlay to convert GIFs to video, and it uploads to Instagram perfectly!
