I usually just unplug and replug it. Works every time but make sure to save your progress!

Hold down the power button until you hear three beeps, and the PS3 will restart. Easy as that!

Lol, I always just hold the power button for about 10 seconds until it beeps twice and shuts off. Then just press it again to turn it back on!

You can turn it off from the XMB menu by going to 'Turn Off System.' After it shuts down, turn it back on.
