Honestly, just let it autosave. The game does a pretty good job of saving after missions and significant events. I rarely bother manually saving anymore.

Saving in GTA 5 is pretty straightforward. You can save your game progress manually by heading to your character's safe house and sleeping in the bed. Don't worry; you don't have to actually wait through the sleeping animation. Just initiating the sleep will bring up the save menu. Additionally, the game autosaves after you complete missions. Make sure you see the autosave icon (a spinning circle) to know it's worked.
Why save? Live on the edge! Just kidding, but seriously, manual saving at safe houses or quick saving through your in-game phone is the way to go. Don't lose your progress after that epic five-star police chase!
