I had the same issue. You can use the 'Timeline Review' feature in Facebook's settings to review tags before they go live!
The easiest way is to adjust your privacy settings so that you'll have to approve tags before they appear on your timeline. Go to Settings > Profile and Tagging > Review Taggs people add to posts before the tags appear on Facebook? -> Turn on.
