How Does Blood Moon Work in MTG?

Blood Moon is pretty straightforward but brutally effective in Magic The Gathering. When Blood Moon is on the battlefield, it turns all nonbasic lands into basic Mountains. This means no matter what fancy lands your opponents have, as long as Blood Moon is chilling on the field, those lands are just Mountains now. They can only produce red mana, which can be devastating to decks that rely on multiple colors. It doesn't remove any abilities the lands had, but it does override their ability to produce any mana other than red.

Blood Moon turns every nonbasic land into a basic Mountain. Period. It's a game-changer that can totally mess up multi-color decks.

As someone who's been on the receiving end of Blood Moon more times than I'd like to admit, it does exactly what it says on the tin. Every fancy, shmancy land you've got that isn't a basic land? Bam, it's a Mountain now. No ifs, ands, or buts. It can really throw a wrench in your game plan if you're not prepared for it.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
