Boruto got the Karma seal after defeating Momoshiki Otsutsuki during the battle in the Chunin Exams arc. It's basically Momoshiki's 'gift' to him.

Boruto's Karma mark came from Momoshiki 艑tsutsuki after Boruto landed the final blow and killed him. Think of it as an unwanted souvenir!

In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Boruto received the Karma seal from Momoshiki 艑tsutsuki when he helped defeat him. It's like a ninja tattoo but with terrifying powers!

He got it because the plot needed to thicken. Seriously though, Momoshiki gave it to him when Boruto defeated him.
