In Tokyo Ghoul, Hide sacrifices himself to help Kaneki survive. He gets fatally wounded and asks Kaneki to eat part of him, so Kaneki can keep going. :(

Technically, Hide doesn’t die in the anime. They leave his fate ambiguous, but in the manga, he’s seriously hurt and left for dead.
