How does PS3 backwards compatibility work?
PressingDesk路7 months agoThe original models of the PS3 (the 20GB and 60GB versions) had hardware-based backwards compatibility, meaning they could play nearly all PS2 and PS1 games. Unfortunately, later models removed this feature to cut costs, so you might need to dig up one of those early models if you want to relive your PS2 glory days.

For most PS3 owners, backwards compatibility is limited to PS1 games only. Sony phased out PS2 compatibility in newer PS3 models, so only the very early units support PS2 games.
My 60GB PS3 handles PS2 and PS1 games like a champ. However, if you've got a slim model, you'll be limited to just PS1 classics. It's a bummer for sure, but at least those PS1 games still hold up pretty well!
The best way to play PS2 games on a PS3 is through the original 20GB or 60GB models. If you've got a later model, it won't work. But don鈥檛 lose hope鈥攜ou can still play most PS1 games across all PS3 models.
