From my experience, modding for reach makes it way easier to clear large groups of enemies. Grineer, Corpus, Infested - they all fall the same!
Honestly, reach mod isn't always necessary. Sometimes more damage or attack speed is better!
Reach mods are basically mandatory if you love spinning around like a tornado with your melee weapons.
It simply increases the distance your melee weapon can hit. So imagine turning your sword into a lightsaber with a longer reach.
