Speaking from experience, I changed my PSN name and some of my older PS3 save data got messed up. It was a headache but manageable. Make sure to double-check which games are compatible.
Honestly, just don't change it if you use your PS3 a lot. Too many risks and not enough benefits.
If you mostly play on PS4 or PS5, then changing your PSN name shouldn't be a big deal for your PS3. But if PS3 is your jam, be cautious!
