Honestly, the manga is leagues ahead! If you wanna be up-to-date with all the juicy stuff going down in the One Piece world, manga is your best bet. The anime does a great job but it's just the nature of the beast that it lags behind.
Not far enough if you ask me. Both are epic, but sometimes the anime takes its sweet time catching up.
As a manga reader, I can say we're quite ahead. But, no worries, the anime does a fantastic job with the material, and those filler episodes? Some are actually gold.
