Quench is decent in MTG Standard, especially during the early game or against decks that don't accumulate a massive amount of mana quickly. It's great for tempo plays, allowing you to disrupt your opponent's strategy while developing your board. However, its effectiveness decreases as the game progresses, and opponents start to have more mana available to pay the extra {2}. So, it's solid in the right deck, particularly those focusing on early pressure or disruption.

Quench has saved my hide more times than I can count in early game scenarios. I run two in most of my blue decks. It's the psychological impact, too鈥攐pponents start second-guessing their plays, fearing that easy 2-mana counter. It might not be the star late game, but early on, it's a champ.

It's a hard pass for me on Quench. There are just so many better counterspells in Standard that don't become nearly useless as the game goes on. Late game, paying 2 extra mana is nothing for most decks, making Quench a dead draw when you really need a reliable counter.
