It depends on what you aim to achieve! If you're looking to just pay off your debts to that raccoon, Tom Nook, it could take a couple of weeks with a few hours of play each day. But if you wanna catch every fish, bug, complete the museum, and get a 5-star island? You're looking at hundreds of hours. And even then, there's always something new to discover or another island design to try out.
Eternal. ACNH is a way of life, not a game you simply 'finish'.
Too long if you ask me. Got bored after 100 hours. But my friend is 500 hours in and still loving it, so to each their own, I guess.
