Honestly, it takes too long. Unless you're a hardcore player, it can be pretty frustrating.
If you play a couple of hours a day, you can expect to research a mid-tier vehicle in about a week or two.
I've been grinding for a top-tier jet, and let me tell you, it feels like forever! Patience is key, or you can always use some Golden Eagles to speed things up.
