Honestly, 8 accounts seems like overkill. One island should be enough for anyone.
Just 1 island per Switch, but you can have 8 people living on it. Each person needs their own user account on the Switch. So, if you've got a big family or lots of friends wanting to play, everyone gets a spot. But remember, you're all stuck sharing the same island!
8! I set up accounts for all my family members, and we each got to pick a spot for our house. It's really fun seeing how different our decorating styles are and helping each other out with tasks and events. Highly recommend if you're sharing your Switch!
