More than 20,000 cards. If you're new, don't panic. You don't need to collect them all to enjoy the game. Just start with a theme or deck you like and build from there.
Last I checked, MTG boasted over 20,000 unique cards. Given how often Wizards of the Coast likes to keep things fresh with new sets and expansions, that number's probably even higher by now. Definitely a collector's heaven... or nightmare, depending on how you look at it!
