Meiosis 1 starts with a full set, and by the end, each daughter cell has half the number, but double the chromatids!

In Meiosis 1, you start with a diploid cell, so it has a full set of chromosomes—46 in humans. By the end of Meiosis 1, the cell splits into two haploid cells, each with 23 chromosomes, but each chromosome still has two sister chromatids!

By the end of Meiosis 1, each cell has 23 chromosomes if we’re talking humans.

I remember from biology class that you start off with 46 chromosomes, and end up with 23 in each of the two daughter cells!
