Don't worry, TF2 isn't a ghost town. It's common to see tens of thousands of players online at any given time.
TF2 still has a solid player base with around 50,000 to 70,000 daily active players on Steam alone. It's still going strong!
I play regularly and there's always plenty of people to play with. It's nowhere near dead.
Honestly, TF2's player base is surprisingly large for its age. You can easily find a match any time of the day.
