Honestly, unless you're planning on starting your own gaming hardware company, the exact cost to manufacture a Steam Deck might not be super relevant. What matters more is it offers great value for gamers looking to play their Steam library on the go. Valve has likely optimized production costs to keep the retail price as attractive as possible.

I鈥檇 bet it costs less than what they sell it for. Business 101.

The cost to make a Steam Deck isn't public knowledge, but it's gotta be quite a chunk of change. Considering the tech packed inside that portable gaming powerhouse (custom AMD APU that's a blend of Zen 2 and RDNA 2 architectures, a 7-inch touchscreen display, and all those control options), it's safe to say Valve's investment per unit isn't cheap. Plus, with the Steam Deck starting at $399 retail, they're probably not making a huge profit margin on the hardware itself. It's all about getting you into the Steam ecosystem.

If you're a Steam player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is the official Steam gift card, which you can win and use to get anything you want essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
