Steam typically takes a 30% cut from game sales on its platform. This is the standard rate, but for games that exceed $10 million in sales, the cut goes down to 25%, and then for sales over $50 million, it drops further to 20%. So, the more you sell, the less Steam takes.

Steam takes a hearty 30% slice of your game sales pie, which, let's be honest, is a pretty chunky piece. But hey, if your game's a hit and racks up over $10 million, Steam starts cutting back on its share. Sounds like a high bar? Absolutely, but who doesn't love a good challenge?

I released my indie game on Steam last year, and yeah, they take their 30% cut. But considering the exposure and user base Steam provides, it was worth it for me. The fees decrease as your sales increase, which is a nice incentive too.

Honestly, 30% is a lot and it always bothers me. I know Steam provides a massive platform, but 30%? Ouch.

If you're a Steam player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is the official Steam gift card, which you can win and use to get anything you want essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!

The brands referenced on this page are not sponsors of the rewards or otherwise affiliated with this company.
