You can experience co-op action in Sonic Forces on the Nintendo Switch by using the "Tag Team" mode in some stages. Two players can team up, one controlling Sonic and the other controlling the custom character.

No co-op for the whole game here, just gotta make do with those Tag Team levels!

Grab a friend and another Joy-Con! Some levels let you play as Sonic and a custom character together in Tag Team Mode. It's not full game co-op tho.
