How to add amiibo to Super Smash Bros
On the Wii U, tap the amiibo to the GamePad. On the Switch, use the right Joy-Con or Pro Controller to get started. Easy peasy.

You literally just tap the amiibo on your console. If it's not working, you might be tapping it wrong. Try again!
Just place your amiibo figure on the NFC touchpoint of your Switch, Wii U, or New 3DS while you're on the amiibo menu in Super Smash Bros. It'll prompt you to register it and then you can start leveling it up in battles!
From my experience, put the amiibo on the Joy-Con stick/pad when you're at the amiibo option in the game menu. The game will walk you through the rest.
