It's easy! Just go to the 'Online' section, hit 'Rooms,' and then you can invite friends by their gamer tag.
You can only add friends through console-specific friend lists – not directly in the game. Hot take: MK11’s friend system could be more straightforward.
From personal experience, the easiest way is through the Online Rooms. Create or join a room, and then invite your friends directly. You can also add them from the main menu through the Online Lobby.
