Been playing State of Decay 2 since day one! You just invite friends through Xbox Live or the in-game menu.

You can't really "add friends" directly in State of Decay 2 like in some other games. Instead, you invite them to your game through Xbox Live. Just open the multiplayer menu, find your friend in the list, and invite them to join you!
