Go to Settings > Display Settings > RGB Full Range (HDMI) > select Limited or Full. Adjusting this can help with brightness and contrast!

If you're in-game, check if the game has its own brightness settings in the Options or Settings menu. Many games do!

Tweak your TV settings instead of the PS3. It has more options for brightness and contrast adjustments!

Fun fact: I once spent an hour in the display settings trying to find the brightness option, only to find out my TV remote had a 'Picture' mode that fixed it instantly. Try your TV settings too!
