Aiming the slingshot in Animal Crossing is easier than catching a rare fish! Just stand directly under the floating balloon and wait for its shadow to be aligned with you. Once it's overhead, just hit the 'A' button to shoot. Timing is key, so watch the shadow!
Been playing since it came out and here's the foolproof method: line your character up with the balloon's shadow on the ground. When it's right above you, hit A to shoot. Missed shots? I don't know her.
You're overthinking it - stand, aim, fire. Animal Crossing isn't exactly Call of Duty.
