To assign a captain, go to your team management screen in Diamond Dynasty, select the player, and hit the button prompt to assign them as captain.

Open your 'Manage Squad' screen in Diamond Dynasty, then highlight the player you want to make captain and press the designated button to assign them. Easy peasy!
