From personal experience, just jumping into the weapon menu (Y on Xbox, I think) and assigning weapons is quick once you get the hang of it.
Open your inventory, pick a weapon, and assign it to a group. Simple as that!
You'll need to open your inventory, select a weapon, and use the 'Assign to Group' option to slot it where you need it. Happy hunting!
