You need to have high Smarts. Go to university and major in English. After graduating, get a job as a writer and keep working your way up until you become an author.
Don't even bother if your Smarts aren't high. You won't get far without them!
I did it by making sure my character had high Smarts, went to college for English, then applied for any writing job after graduation. Took a few years, but I eventually became an author!
First, focus on your character's Smarts and make sure to study hard in school. After high school, go to university and major in English or something writing-related. Once you graduate, apply for a writer job and work your way up to author!
