Go to your Facebook settings, click on 'Privacy', then change 'Who can send you friend requests?' to 'Friends of friends'.
Settings > Privacy > 'Who can send you friend requests?' > 'Friends of friends'. Done.
I did this recently. Hit 'Settings & Privacy', go to 'Privacy Shortcuts', and boom, switch 'Who can send you friend requests?' to 'Friends of friends'. You'll see a lot fewer requests!
