How to block Messenger from Facebook
You can't really 'block' Messenger, but you can deactivate it. Go to your Facebook settings, find 'Manage Account', and under 'Deactivate', choose Messenger. It's like putting it in time-out!

Been there! You just need to deactivate it through Facebook settings. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
If you're on your phone, go to 'Settings,' then 'Account Settings,' then 'Messenger,' and finally, hit 'Deactivate'!
Why not just turn off notifications and ignore it? Out of sight, out of mind!
