Head to the options menu in XCOM 2, then go to the controls section. You should see options to switch your input device there.

Super easy! Just plug in your desired input device (like a gamepad or mouse) before launching XCOM 2. The game auto-detects it!

Honestly, just use whatever's connected when you start the game. XCOM 2 handles it pretty well.

I had the same issue. If it's not detecting the new device, try restarting the game after connecting the input.
