Actually, nope. You're stuck with the name. Think of it as a tattoo for your island - permanent. So make sure you love it!
You can't change the island name in Animal Crossing. It's a bummer, I know. I named mine 'Trash Island' as a joke, thinking I could change it later... Nope. Big regret.
