Just demote your current leader from the community menu and promote another character. Takes like two minutes.
Just remember, when you demote your leader, it can tank your community's morale. Choose wisely when you promote someone new!
I tried it last night, you just go to the community menu, demote your leader, then pick a new one to promote!
You can demote a leader through the community tab and promote someone else. But beware! Demoting leaders can cause some morale issues among your survivors.
