Here's a trick: Some DVDs might be region-locked, but you can use software like AnyDVD on your computer to rip and re-burn DVDs as region-free. Just be sure to stay within legal bounds!
Unfortunately, you can't change the region code on a PS3 directly through its settings. Your best bet is to find a region-free DVD player or look for region-free DVDs.
From personal experience, using a PlayStation 3 as a DVD player is fantastic, but switching regions isn't possible. I ended up buying a cheap region-free DVD player for those rare cases.
