Just swap the battery! Open your inventory, select the scanner, and choose the 'R' key (for PC) to replace the dead one with a charged battery.

Make sure you have a spare battery ready in your inventory. When the scanner dies, simply hit 'R' while holding it to replace the battery.

Pro tip: Keep extra batteries on hand! When your scanner runs out of juice, just press 'R' and select a new battery from your inventory.
