You can't charge AA batteries in the controller; use rechargeable batteries or the official battery pack.

The Xbox Series X controller uses AA batteries, but you can also get the Xbox Rechargeable Battery pack. Just pop it into the battery slot, plug it into the console using a USB-C cable, and you're good to go!
