For the best squad balance, prioritize getting at least one of each class early on: Grenadier, Ranger, Specialist, Sharpshooter, and Psi Operative. Diversify your tools!
I always go for a mixture of Sharpshooters and Grenadiers. Nothing beats blowing up cover and sniping from a distance!
Quick tip: Ranger with a shotgun can make alien encounters very short. Risky? Yes. Fun? Absolutely!
Honestly, just go with what feels fun. XCOM 2 is about adapting! Any combo can work if you play smart.
