Compressed air is your friend! Just blast some around the joystick to remove dust and debris. Works like a charm!

Just buy a new controller. Easier and cleaner.

I've cleaned mine by carefully using a toothpick to get dirt out of the nooks and crannies, followed by a quick wipe with an alcohol pad. Good as new!

You can use a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol to gently clean around the joystick. Make sure not to drench it, just dampen the swab and clean around the edges of the joystick to remove dirt and grime.
