Keep your main army balanced with strong units at the front and cavalry on the flanks. React quickly to an ambush by repositioning your troops.

Use terrain to your advantage. March through open fields, not forests! Ambushes are harder to pull off in clear terrain.

Hot take: Sometimes it's best to just sacrifice that weak army. Let it be the bait and then smash the ambushers with your main force!

Set your lord to 'March Stance' to increase the chances of detecting ambushes. Always have a scout hero ahead to give you an extra set of eyes!

First-hand experience: I got ambushed once, saved by having two armies close together. Reinforcements saved me! So always travel in pairs if possible.
