Not worth the hassle. Just get a newer MFi controller.
You'll need to jailbreak your iPad and use software like Blutrol to connect a PS3 controller. After that, it's gaming time!
I've done it before! Use SixaxisPairTool on your computer to pair the PS3 controller, then connect it to your iPad through Bluetooth settings. Takes a bit of fiddling, but it's doable!
