You can't connect a PS4 controller directly to a Switch without an adapter. Just pick up a compatible USB adapter, and you're good to go!

You'll need a wireless USB adapter like the ones from 8BitDo. Plug it into the Switch dock, press the pairing button on the adapter, and then on your PS4 controller. Voila!

I've done this myself: grab an 8BitDo dongle, stick it in the dock, and sync the PS4 controller. Works like a charm!
