You can't directly connect AirPods to an Xbox controller because Xbox controllers don't support Bluetooth audio. You'd need to use an adapter or stream via the Xbox app on a phone or tablet for sound.

Sadly, Xbox controllers don't have Bluetooth audio support. Try using a Bluetooth transmitter or stream your Xbox gameplay to a mobile device to use your AirPods.
