Did this last week. You gotta open Apex through Steam and it asks for your EA details. Log in and everything from your Origin account shows up in Steam. Got all my skins and progress. No hassle.
Honestly, I wouldn't bother transferring Apex Legends from Origin to Steam. I like keeping my games where they originally are, feels more organized to me. Plus, no real benefit switching platforms.
