You can't directly connect a PS3 to a laptop with an HDMI cable because laptops have HDMI outputs, not inputs. Instead, you can use a capture card or an HDMI-to-USB adapter for gameplay recording or streaming.
Buy a capture card and connect your PS3 to the card, then connect the card to your laptop via USB. Problem solved!
