You can use an Xbox 360 controller on an Xbox One S, but you need a special adapter. Look up 'Xbox 360 to Xbox One Controller Adapter' on your favorite shopping site!

I tried this myself and no luck. Best bet is to get an Xbox One controller.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to directly connect an Xbox 360 controller to an Xbox One S. They use different wireless protocols.
