Crafting a bookshelf in Terraria isn't as hard as finding an actual book in my room. First, you gotta head over to a Sawmill. If you don't have one, craft it using 10 wood, 2 iron or lead bars, and a chain at a Work Bench. Next, gather 20 wood and 10 books. You can find books in the Dungeon; they're just lying around waiting to be picked up. Take all that to the Sawmill, and bam, you've got yourself a bookshelf!

Honestly, why bother making a bookshelf? Just throw your stuff on the ground. It's the Terraria way.
