To craft better tools in Terraria, you gotta start by mining better ores. Start with copper or tin, then move on to iron or lead. Once you've got those, look for silver or tungsten, and then gold or platinum. Each tier of ore lets you craft stronger tools. Don't forget, you'll need a furnace to smelt ores into bars, and an anvil to craft the tools. As you progress, keep an eye out for demonite/crimtane ore dropped by bosses for even better gear!
