Hot take, but the best fishing rod is actually the Sitting Duck's Fishing Pole. You can buy it from the Traveling Merchant for 35 gold. Sure, it's not the 'best' in terms of fishing power, but it's way easier to get than the Golden Fishing Rod. Perfect for those who'd rather not grind quests.
